Training for Foster Carers

In addition to the standard training foster carers receive we believe that enhancing and updating their skills is very important. Our workshops are designed to provide foster carers with in depth information, in an way they will be able to relate to their everyday experiences of caring for their foster children.

The prices quoted below are for a maximum of 20 participants. This is to maximise potential for learning opportunities and discussion.

Understanding attachment and trauma (3 hours - £395)

Covering: Understanding the meaning and causes of attachment and trauma, how trauma affects brain development, what symptoms might be seen in these children, practical strategies to promote healthy attachments and ways to maximise the success of future placements for the child.

Attachment and Trauma: Advanced level (6 hours - £650)

Covering: Definitions and caused of early trauma, Attachment styles and theories, brain development and its effect on learning, linking the behaviours to the history, strategies to support a child's needs, diagnosis, therapy options.

Contact - Keeping it positive (2 hours - £295)

Covering: Types of contact, what the law says about contact, the benefits and difficulties of contact, keeping contact positive and linking contact to life story work.

Life story work (2 hours - £295)

Covering: Why life story work is so important for children in the care system, ways to support, promote and actively participate in a child’s life story work, and encourage future carers to continue with your work.

Life story work and helping your foster child to move on (3 hours - £395)

Covering: Why life story work is so important for children in the care system, ways to support, promote and actively participate in a child’s life story work, and encourage future carers to continue with your work. Also preparing for introductions both practically and emotionally, and maximising opportunities for promoting attachments between the child and their new parents/carers.

Supporting the education of your foster child (2 hours - £295)

Covering: An overview of attachement and trauma, why children can find school difficult, potential causes of problems at school, working in partnership with school and other professionals and practical strategies to use and share with others.

 

Understanding self harm in children and young people (3 hours - £395)

Covering: What is self harm and why do children and young people do this, how to identify self harming behaviours, minimising risk in self harm, strategies to help support the child or young person.

Understanding self harm in children and young people (6 hours - £650)

Covering: What is self harm and why do children and young people do this, how to identify self harming behaviours, minimising risk in self harm, strategies to help support the child or young person, impact on staff, parents or carers when dealing with self harming behaviours, time for networking and discussion amongst participants to share information and experiences.

Supporting mother and baby foster placements (3 hours - £395)

 

Covering: An overview of the practical, emotional, procedural and theoretical issues and factors in undertaking mother and baby foster placements. The workshop aims to provide information and 'food for thought', as well as providing space for participant discussion.

Supporting mother and baby foster placements (6 hours - £650)

Covering: Advice and guidance in respect of the practical, emotional, procedural and theoretical issues and factors in undertaking mother and baby foster placements. This full day workshop aims to provide in depth information and offer 'food for thought' with regards to the issues raised. There will be a number of practical activities as well as time for participant discussion.

Practical Brief Solution Focused Therapy (2 hours - £295)

Covering: An overview of the approach, including practice elements of this method. Applying Brief Solution Focused Therapy to foster children, promoting change in an empowering way.

Terms and conditions - On site training

The prices quoted are based on the following:

  • A maximum of 20 participants. This is to maximise the potential for learning opportunities and discussion. We will accept additional participants at a cost of £5 per person, but please be aware that the courses are designed for groups of up to 20 and increasing this number may impact on the effectiveness of the training and the learning of participants.
  • The venue should be based within the West Midlands area. Additional costs will be incurred if the venue is outside of this area.
  • The venue should be provided by yourselves. If required, we will be happy to arrange a venue on your behalf at an additional cost, which will depend on the location.
  • Notice of cancellations must be given in writing within 5 days of the scheduled training date. After this time no refunds will be given.
